A wall from the outskirts of Saintes, France. Saintes is filled with buildings and walls of limestone, a pale ochre limestone which attracted Sergio as he began his 3 months of preparing 15 French walls for THE WALLS exhibit in 1996. After a month or two he asked Richard to drive him around so he might find some color. He arrived at the town wall where “affiches” (posters) were to be hung and found his color. Later he said the other important part from this scene was the broad white stripes on the road. Others noted the similarities with Mexico in the roof tiles and the metal door.
